A strange find from yesterday

Got out to a battle site a friend owns, and pulled up this three ringer. Normally not a big deal, but I can't figure out what I'm seeing in the base. It looks like paint or some other marking. Does anyone know of anything like this or that could cause this? Happy hunting!

Not sure what you are referring to as "paint". Do you mean the blue gray showing through the white patina? That would be the actual color of the lead showing through the white "patina" layer on the outside. It often scrapes, scratches, or chips away easily. Don't see any other markings though. Nice fired bullet. The white outside is just a layer of oxidization on the lead.

No inside the cavity. It looks like an intentionally made letter, an S. Was cleaning with a soft brush when I noticed it
