Re: WW1 pistol...

Very cool! I'd love to find some old guns for my MDing collection. Something about them intrigues me. Was it used in a robbery, war, unsuccessful self defense? You just never know.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: WW1 pistol...

The camera perspective of the Barrel bore in comparison to the Cylinder bore diameter seems to be an illusion. Please measure the barrel bore and also the cylinder bore diameter. It looks like the barrel is much larger than the cylinder....and that can't be on a real weapon. Might be a play or cap gun. :dontknow:

:icon_thumright: cool find

Re: WW1 pistol...

That is one strange piece :icon_thumleft: If it ever fired god only knows where the bullet went. ;D

Re: WW1 pistol...

Hi,
I think it might date a bit older than that, maybe 1870's. It's hard to tell who and when these type of revolvers were made even when they are in good condition...lol..

I think this might be a Gasser Gendarmerie Revolver type, they were made by several dozen different makers if not more, in all kinds of different calibers.

that's in my opinion... hard to tell the exact model with no markings left on it.
anyway, that's a cool find!

barrel bore diameter 45 mm
cylinder bore diameter 10 mm

Well.....with that information....I stand by my comment that this can't be a live firing weapon unless it was manufactured with a sleeved barrel...and the sleeve has fallen or eroded out.....unlikely. French or otherwise unless someone can explain how this could function..???

TiredIron
In thinking about your measurements......your sure the barrel has a bore diameter of 45mm......thats 1.772 inches. 10mm is .394 inches....??
This thing would look bigger than a 8 gauge shotgun. If these dimensions are correct this "might" be a strange "Flare Pistol" of some sort.

Re: WW1 pistol...

Maybe a movie studio prop. Wicked find, WTG :icon_thumleft:

Re: WW1 pistol...

Very cool find yo6oej :icon_thumleft:
but you must have giant hands if that barrel bore is 45mm ;D
Do you mean .45 inches, 11.4mm ?

Re: WW1 pistol...

Real or toy.............still a cool find..................

Re: WW1 pistol...

my mistake :BangHead: ...sorry...barrel bore diameter 10 mm and cylinder diameter 45 mm

Re: WW1 pistol...

Don't knock yourself out about it... ;D but, TiredIron asked for the bore size of the individual cylinder 'holes', compared to the bore of the barrel.

Re: WW1 pistol...

Hi guys, I'm a newbie here so please excuse my jumping in on this but I so have some experience with firearms.

This weapon bares a striking resemblance to a 455 Webley a British made gun used and issued during the late 1800's to early 1900's. The size of the rounds used in this weapon were huge.

The barrel appearing to be larger than the cylinder could be just an optical illusion but could have also be caused by the rare and often deadly situation of a missfired round being stuck in the barrel and another round being fired right after it causing the barrel to expand and often to to explode. Once this situation has occurred the gun is usless and maybe the reason it was discarded.

I can attest to this happening as I had a S&W model 10 .38 cal that this happened to and it warped the barrel signifigantly giving the gun a very strange bulge in the middle and a very large opening at the end.

Hope this helps and again sorry for busting in.

Merlyn

Re: WW1 pistol...

I wonder if the barrel is actually the same size all the way down. Perhaps the end has been hollowed out, has decayed, has expanded as a result of a misfire as Merlyn555 states, or was just made larger for some reason. Can you tell what size the barrel is where it meets the bullet chambers? Is it smaller on that end?

I don't think this is a toy. It is too detailed for that. It may be a starter pistol or something similar though.
