Hunted my latest favorite wooded ridges and valleys again but moved south into a new area. I came to a small cliff top where I popped a nice IH Cent out of the moss. Scanning the area once more and less than one detector length away I hit another good signal. There was no need to dig this time for laying right there on top of the moss was another IH Cent (see photo near search coil below)…my first IH Cent surface find!!! :hello2: I continued to scan that same area very carefully but only managed a handful of 22 cal. shell casings after that.

Heading down the back side of the ridge at the foot of a taller cliff face I found my 2nd 3 ringer in Connecticut! :happy3: This one hit the dirt a lot harder than the first one I found this summer but there is no doubt it is a minnie ball.

Toward the end of the hunt I happened upon a cool dog sculpture that seems to be made of pewter. It is hollow on the inside and has a hole on the top that seems to be original.

Thanks for looking!
Nick

Way to go on some great finds! It's crazy to find old coins on the surface. Congrats on another 3 ringer! I hope you find many more, good luck.

1.gif dog might have been to hold matches ???

It's funny how it worked its way to the surface of the moss too. I once found a Buffalo Nickel on the surface but it was exposed by an overturned tree trunk.

Good idea, I hadn't thought of that possibility.

Great finds! I like the dog!

I found an Indian head on the surface too! It was my first IH! Right next to it was a flat button. Cool finds! 1891

I thought it was pretty cool too. I'm not sure if it was meant to be a toy or a sculpture/knick knack.

Nice one! Yours survived being on the surface a lot better than mine did! The one that was buried nearby was in much better shape.
