Primarily for my own amusement, I'm posting an odd privy find. Maybe not so odd, as anyone who has dug a privy can attest; one of the items we frequently find on our way down are bones. Often ribs, but usually poultry; I can't say for sure what exactly, because some of them have different dimensions and features from the bones left after I've devoured another Costco chicken. Anyway, the larger wishbone shown is from our 20 pound Thanksgiving turkey. By comparison, the smaller one is from a 100 year old privy we dug in October. Yes, the privy that yielded a bonanza in hair restoration bottles also coughed up this delicate little wishbone. We surmise that it was (a chicken?) raised on the farm way back when. Until my next privy or detecting site, this is the best I can do! I hope you all enjoy a blessed Christmas and a great 2011!

Very cool, I found my 100 year old trash pit this summer and found several bones in it . I was very surprised.

Figures birdman would reply to this post! Back in the '80's, my brother talked about SJ AFB often; I think he even spent a few weeks there for some reason. He started as a B-52 Nav, then went to pilot training and became a 141 then C-17 pilot. Not sure how SJ fit in.

It is from an organic turkey, pre hormone use.

Nice Pic,
Seems when I find bones in a hole, there's a good find there also.
has happened to me many times,
Below, turkey & pig bones with cut marks, found with knife handle,
not saying this is one of the 'Good' finds, but it tells a story about a time when a drumstick was tough enough to have to cut it with a knife.
HH all!

Yep, it was quite a year and we had a blast digging up the privies. There is nothing like digging an 8 foot hole and finding history at the bottom. Thanks again Henry, I am looking forward to hitting them again next year!

Jared, I already have two in my sites nearby, not to mention the one at the 1800's farmhouse out the road up here.
