Well the Plugger 3 piece CF Straight Shaft for my Excalibur arrived. I got it all put together (in about 2 hours) and I really like the balance. Now I'm ready for my next beach hunt...although I have to wait until I get time to go...but at least I'm ready. Thanks for looking. Tt

Yep, looks like mine, swing for hours and no elbow or whatever else pain. Love it compared to elbow breaking stock configuration!

Very nice! I have the same shaft and it's so easy to sweep the coil. It almost floats over the sand.

Do they have them for other brands of metal detectors.

Super nice buddy. I just got an Anderson carbon fiber lower rod and put it on my 3 piece Plugger (replaced the Minelab lower rod) and I swear it is noticeably lighter than my other setup on my blue 1000 (which doesn't have one).

Some fine looking machines! And the time is here!!

Twins! You probably spend way too much time deciding which one gets to go hunting. :) Tt

Yep. I have one on my Dual Field. Balances out the heavy coil well!

that 3 piece is on my list of things to get next!

What length Anderson lower shaft did you need to replace the stock rod?

Tenderfoot, I got the 24" lower rod from Kellyco which is the same size as the stock rod. There is a 12" option, but I imagine that is for dive setups.

Thanks Jadocs

What setup would you get for travel? Plugger or Anderson?

I don't know if Anderson offers a 3 piece travel shaft but Plugger does. All the machines above are using the carbon fiber 3 piece shafts. The other thing to consider is how the shafts are connected. I'm not sure if Anderson is using cam locks, but Plugger has a proprietary mechanism that will not lock up on you. 3 piece shaft broken down below:

I've been using one of his one piece straight aluminum shafts for close to 2 years now. Riding it hard in the surf and it's held up well. I actually snapped my carbon fiber Anderson straight shaft clean in half while surf hunting. I tend to lean on the shaft for balance while digging for targets in the surf which can put a lot of stress on the shaft.
