✅ SOLVED A tough one.what would it have measured?

It's thick brass.Has a track for measuring something,and it measured in half inch's and 1/8 inches?this one has got me completely stumped?

I'd clean out those two grooves to see why they are there. See if something ran in the grooves, causing obvious wear ? like thread or twine?
