Can you post a photo of the side view when you get a chance? Thanks.

For some reason (and not necessarily a good one, BTW), my first thought is this part belongs to a 10-speed bicycle. ? :dontknow:

With the rectangular notch it looks like part of a latch. What kind of metal is it?

better pics

it's about a inch long by about a half inch to. but you can see the almost filed looking notches on the edge on one side.

I believe this is just half of a piece that is broken in half.. I believe the other side would match the side I found..

Part of a "friction arm adjuster".

Similar to this...

well AARC, everything I've been digging almost has been around 1700's to 1800. And it's in the middle of the woods with no town within 15-20 miles. And it's size has almost got me thinking a "knife blade guard." These are some sketches I came up with after realizing it was broke in half. So all in all, it measures around 2 1/4" long x 5/8th's wide..

I wonder...

How is it you came up with the piece in question being broken exactly in half in your opinion ?

I'll withdraw my earlier comment about it being part of a 10-speed bike!

(You guys are good..!!) :)

after looking at the edges of the 2 "legs" I could see under a microscope how jagged they were. not flat and rounded like a finished piece would be.
