I found both pieces in 2 different places miles apart. 1 is quartz and the other jasper. As you can see they both have the same shape and design. My question is are they broken or actual tools? They both are made well. Thanks, rock

The jasper piece looks like a tool to me but not sure about the quartz piece. But interesting that they are shaped the same so it would seem they are both tools. But I'll defer to more knowledgeable people on here.

That is a very common fracture on stone tools/blades. A lot of times they will break where there is some type of brittle inclusion in the stone. I have had that type of fracture occur on pre forms that I was knapping. If the fracture occurred in ancient times, I'm sure they still would have used it as a tool. Broken pieces like that are razor sharp.

I think they are just broken like Kansa54 said, I see a lot of broken artifacts like that. The jasper one shows the curve of the main shock wave that made it break.

Both are tips to a spear or point. Both show work but yeah probably broken from impact. I just thought it was strange they looked the same. Ill throw them in the broken pile then, thanks everyone......rock
