which would be the better detector if in knee deep water............if i seal the electronics so they dont get wet with plastic, which one would be the most stable? dont have an underwater detector, i live too far from the beach right now but would like to give it a shot while at the beach. any tips would be appreciated.

Hi jeffmrgan,
I have a ACE250 and have used it on dry sand at the saltwater beach. It doesn't do too well in the wet sand on the salt water beach.
I have used my ACE on a freshwater beach in in the water being careful not to get my electronics wet. The coil is waterproof. It does great in freshwater.
I haven't had any experience with the XLT.

Hope this helps,
saltydog

If your gonna hunt the saltwater and your budget is on the low side look into a Sandshark by tesoro. great MD and Deep Very stable in the salt water I own one and have found a lot loot with it , I have 4 detectors I might be getting rid of the Sandshark , I need to thin down herd . PM me if interested I would make you a great deal on it , its 3 months old with 2 coils 8 and 10.. Guzz1

Guzz is right. I just answered another post talking about the Tesoro Sandshark for a good affordable water machine that can also be used on dry land very effectively.

The 250 and the XLT are not going to do you a bit of good in knee deep salt water. If you plan on staying in fresh water you may be o.k. but salt water would interfere so much with them that they would be relatively useless.
