Just purchased an Ace 250. It's been too cold to try it out, so I did some air test. It did well, detecting a dime @ 7". It beat out my BH Time ranger, equalled out my Tesoro Conquistador, but didn't quite come up to my GTI 1500 ( hard to beat a GTI). Here is the mystery. Out in my back yard I have some good ole American coins buried (about 8 months). One of them being a dime @ 5". All my detectors detect it except the ACE! However, since I have its location marked with a golf tee, I can pinpoint it with the ACE. It is dead center. I have heard the ACE with detect deeper than it will pinpoint! This one is proving just the opposite. It will however detect the other coins buried at 3 and 4 inches. Any explanations other than operator error?

i think its just the nature of the beast. the ace 250 is an entry level machine, and as such doesnt have the depth to compete with more advanced detectors. its a great machine for the money, but it does have limitations. you could try hunting in all metal. that should get a little more depth.

Hollow Point is right. Another thing to look at is with some discrimination it misses the dime in your plot. In pinpoint however it is in all metal and it punches deeper. Not all detectors are created equal even in the same model due to manufacture and components. I'm just consider myself lucky if they turn on.

The shape of the 250 coil gives the signal a wider area of coverage below the coil. The round coils will funnel the signal down in the ground. There may be a piece of iron down there that the 250 coil is picking up that the others are not? Also try sweeping the coil faster over the coin in short sweeps. This may get it to beep.
