Between weather and work, I finally was able to get out a bit today. Have not been out but about 6-7 times all year. Got a bit of clad and a silver belly ring at a tot lot (lol).

Here is the question: Why does my ACE bounce back and forth between, say 5 cent, pull-tab, and 1 cent? I had it in jewelry mode.

When searching in jewelry mode, I discriminate the last two bars on the left. At the top of the screen is gold/bronze. Under neath is an image of a pull tab. My assumption is that I dig anything in the middle? Or to the left and right as well?

Thanks!

most times when it does that it is junk but ya never know so change angles and try again. Most times I don't dig those but every now and then I will. Will get trash for the most part but did find some coins also so you just have to decide one wether you want to take the time to dig or not. Good Luck

I would agree with Frank.

I found that almost all shallow coins (0 to 3 inches) will ID dead on with a solid bell tone in all directions. But when the coins are deeper the Ace 250 can’t make a positive ID and you will not get the solid bell tone in all directions. I started finding older coins when I started digging these deeper iffy signals. You will dig more trash chasing the deeper signals but the more experience you get the less trash you dig.

I will agree with Frank also, I've logged in quite alot of hours with the ace 250 now. Really didn't like this machine at all at first but now that I have some hours with it i'mstarting to understand it a little better. The nickel, gold, pulltab range is a tough one on any detector. 9 out of 10 times if you can't get a solid signal swinging in both directions in the 1" to 3" range it is junk. If it is 4" to 8" this machine IMO just doesn't clear the signal up enough to distinguish what's there. If i'm hunting a clean area and get a signal like this, I will dig it. I was just out the other day hunting and got a signal just like this, it was a clean site old victorian style home. I was going along and got a coin tone and kept swinging and I was getting coin, coin, iron tone 6" depth so I thought heck I will dig it. Once I got the plug out I went back over it and got a solid coin tone, ended up being a 1953 silver dime. I didn't think that wastoo bad for a $200.00 detector. IMO, I think the big thing with this machine is a very slow sweep speed.

I hunted pea gravel with mine yesterday and I find that the soil will have alot to do with the signal on the Ace, mine is really jumpy with the wet gravel but if you go to a dryer soil it smooths out some. Most coins I found were jumpy but you can still tell coins over half the time because of the sound. The Ace is really particular to coins and wire and is able to hit things like pieces of pants rivets easily to 4 inches but the ID will never be as stable as higher dollar machines. Anyone who says it is not a good detector would be wrong, but at the same time do not go looking for 8 or 9 inch deep silver with it. If you are just doing totlots or ball fields where you won't want to dig much it works fine.

Bingo!!!! I have found the same with my machine. Depends on how hard the ground is if I am going to dig, or not.

Just got back from the beach for the first time with my Ace 250...very disappointing day. Wet sand? Fuggedaboutit...aint gonna happen. Machine was unstable and the target ID was bouncing all over the area. Dropped the sensitivity down to 3 bars and it calmed down but I lost most of my depth to about 2 or 3 inches. But it did well on the aluminum soft drink cans. i was digging those at 2 to 3 feet. They would make a 4 x 4 foot X in the sand when pinpointing so I stopped digging those after a couple. In the surf? Every wave made it go nuts until i dropped it down to 2 or 3 bars but depth really sucked after that.

Time for a beach machine :laughing9:
