Hello. At a panning spot, out of my sluice,I recovered some very cool hematite/iron ore crystals in my heavies.Good shapes. On my last trip I found my first gold crystals. To anyone that finds crystallised gold, can you please tell me what other indicators you find in your heavies that you find encouraging.I would like to see if it matches my experience of them. Too small to photograph with my crappy camera. Only really see the structure under a loupe. This is the first time I have found gold crystals in that area. But also the first time I have found such well shaped iron ore crystals. Can anybody shed any light on this.Is this common or just a coincidence. Thankyou

Crappy photo doesn't show much. The iron ore crystals are either cubes or rectangles with the smallest being a cool octahedron. The gold is also too small for any detail with my camera but looks good under a loupe. Trying to understand what happened in that area. Cheers

If that gold is still in crystallized form, you have a vein somewhere close by.

Tiny gold crystals make great micro mounts in magnifier boxes as some are really stunning-John

You might find out that octahedron is chromite.

If you have a decent Gem Loupe or Magnifying Glass, you can try holding it up against the lens of the camera to get better close-up pics of the specimens.
