I am usually too tired to hunt after work, but this time of year the weather is so nice, best to take advantage of it. Was able to hit a new permission, I enjoyed this hunt, small yard, with almost no trash. Just over a dollar in clad, 6 old wheats, all of which were teens and twenties, and a 1920 Mercury Dime... I guarandamntee that if she was still in the ground, it wouldn't have a scratch across the obverse...:BangHead: my bad. 001.webp002.webp

Thanks for looking, and HH!!8-)

nice merc wtg

You use scoop or digger?... I am a scoop guy...period... custom stainless... I used diggers for awhile but because of too many times damaging things I never use unless I have to... usually around heavy/thick tree roots only.

I did just the same the other week with a silver sixpence .
But better out than in.
Regards

Digger, almost exclusively. My lawns at minimum have a layer of roots beneath the Bahia grass, or Floratam. that require a bit of cutting through, a scoop would never "cut it", so to speak. My pinpointing is usually spot on...I had a few targets within reach of the DD coil, ........ and oopsy! I didn't scratch the clad dimes, FYI.

Good job on the Silver! You're not the only one that has scratched a coin. I scuffed an 1870 Indian penny before I found it in the hole. Arrgghhh, $140 value in average circulated condition! I always try to cut a wide plug, but sometimes I just miss on my pinpointing. I believe I have 6-8 coins with added character. lol

great merc in spite of the scratch

My scoop is like a worn in baseball glove... one moderate kick I am through 3 inch crab grass... perfect 4inchx4inchx5-6inch deep... it is so worn the entire rim is like a blade.
Kick, pull up and away and hold while I pass over hole... if still sig then gently dump plug ... kick pull again... almost every hole is either one or two kicks.... mostly one.

It happens, Dave. I put a nice little battle scar on my oldest silver to date. Nice Merc!

Way to go Dave, good after work hunt that put a smile on your face. Don't beat yourself up over a ding, one of my favorite all time finds was a 1922 D Peace Dollar that I hit with my lesche. Guess what, I don't care, I still found her and I still love looking at her.

I bet that yard has a sister to that Merc hiding in there somewhere, hit it again after a good soaking rain, never know, after those roots and moles move stuff around?

It happens but still a nice coin...

Nice finds. Congrats on scoring that merc.

Very nice finds. Congrats on the silver.

I have hit some of my nicest coins. A little scratch gives the old girl a bit of character. GL&HH

I have heard that Ray Rice is an AT Pro user...

His wife is kinda hot, I wish she would attack me in an elevator... I wouldn't fight back!

Great silver! Congrats!
We've all scratched something! Mine was a barber dime.
