I believe you are correct. It did come from a area that was mined. Looks just like it. Thank youIt looks very close to this shovel from a 1926 Ames catalog. I'm guessing that your shovel was intended to be used for gold mining because of your location. During the depression gold mining became popular again to make a living. So my guess is that it is from the 1930s, it may not have been used for mining at all but it is a mining shovel according to the catalog.

The response was myself what I thought could be the possible age because of what I know about rivets. I just find it funny you didn't realize the comment you are talking about is my own.It appears to be a vintage shovel blade that once had a long wooden handle held together like JVA mentioned above. Condition guess that it is from the 40"s.
