Hello! . . . . . I dug this item today while metal detecting at the University of Oregon. The back side is marked STERLING. The front side has the initials A G S vertically and the numbers 0 4 (which I assume means the date of 1904). It is rather small. It measures 20 millimeters wide and about 14 millimeters tall. Looks like some sort of lapel pin to me. What do you think?

I'd guess A.G.S. is a school, and the owner was a 1904 graduate?

Is the college that old? Could it be a fraternity or sorority pin?

The University of Oregon was founded in 1876 and they offer an Associate of General Studies degree. A lapel pin as described could cover two possible years there.

I had someone on a facebook.com forum suggest that it is a Associate Of General Studies degree pin
