There is a lot of clay at the bottom of northern Lake Champlain. Had a great time this morning snorkeling in an area where I have found war of 1812 goodies. My favorite is the Script I button. Probably manufactured 1813 - 1814 due to the lack of a regiment number. The pewter has retained a lot of the original plate.

Update: I know see, under a loupe, that the gold gilt is still present, not silver plate.

That script I is in amazing shape. Snorkeling?

Wow, great finds, especially the War of 1812 button! I like the copper, too. I was just up on Lake Champlain and found an 1820's-1840's button 3 inches down on a rocky beach. There is so much stuff to find in the Lake!
