I have a friend who is as we speak, in key west detecting. He was told by the airlines not to carry the detector on the plane, even broke down. He packed it very well in a suitcase with packing foam. And included a large note inside the suitcase saying what the DFX was, the serial number and to please be careful.. He called last week to say owner and detector are fine. And of course to rub in the fact, I am still in Michigan working. I have debated forever how to transport my DFX and I think this is the way to go. Its not worth the hassle of trying to carry it. At the very least you may spend alot of time showing security how it works. Hope this helps a bit. DD.

I've traveled to Mexico twice with my detector in the check baggage and it was fine. If you have concerns pack the coil in a different bag and if any one does try to steal it they will only have half and hopefully will not have time to look through ever bag to find the other half.

I've done both... broken down the machines and carried them on the plane. Last summer I went to the Dominican Republic and brought both my DFX and my Sufmaster PI. The DFX is much harder to break down and get in a carry-on because of the display - it is still pretty long and bulky. I ended up packing my DFX up with my divegear (put it between my fins, and duct-taped them together, forming a "DFX sandwich". My surfmaster i stuck in my backpack.

I've never had a problem doing either... andI tend to pack them In my luggage when I travel now. Every little bit of space counts when you're dealing with 2 kids. Put it in your luggage... just wrap it up in something so it is protected

I have carried my DFX in the whites small hard case inside the airplane twice traveling to south america, no problems

Recently took mine to Florida in my carry on bag. You just need to take the shaft part off and put it in your luggage. I had called the airline ahead of time and they checked with the TSA and we were told it would not be a problem.
