Almost junk button.... but maybe not?

Hey t'netters- So was hunting in northern VA today again near Battle of Aldie. However this flat button is not cw war related of course. The only thing I can make out on the back mark is "PLATED". Right after the word plated is a star. More letters along the bottom. Shank is intact and a simple attachment rather than the tombac I believe. Any ideas on age and rest of back mark? Front appears plated with nickel or tin? Or perhaps silver? Although rang on my MXT at much lower than silver. Appreciate the looks!

Seeing in person would tell the front better.

The back looks typical flaking/peeling over base metal, so it's not tombac.

the front could be silver plate, but the ones I've found, show at least some faint signs of peeling/blistering. The silver ones here in my area, seem to have very thick plating on the front.

People tend to date these "backmarked" as 1820-1840, but some say back to 1800 or very,very later 1700s
