I started the day off by going back to the spot where I found the ground lip bottle. I spent about two hours there digging there to no avail there were just shards. So I then decided to hit a local river bank there I had a little bit of luck. I didn't spend two much time there because I forgot my gloves at the house. But I think I found some kind of an electrical glass do dad. It had a coiled copper wire going through it I don't think it's a bottle neck. And I found a small bottle with stickney and poor spice co. Boston mass embossed on it. And I was wondering is there a way to remove rust stains from glass? Thanks in advance for the help. - Justin

I've had good luck with diluted muriatic acid on rust stains. Won't harm the glass. Nice finds!

IT Is some type of insulator, Could be for a lighting rod

Cool I'll have to try the muriatic acid. Do I just the bottle soak in it ? I thought it might be some kind of insulator. Thank u

Yeah it doesn't take long for it to do its magic. I dip it in, scrub a little, and in a few minutes the stains are gone. Acid was the only thing working for me on rust. I had tried all sorts of other tricks, but I think acid will get the job done.

Hey Justin,

Two keepers is more than I found today. There's a good history on Stickney & Poor @ Stickney & Poor Spice Company

I'm afraid of acid, thanks mainly to Vincent Price. If the rust is not too bad, I make a paste of Bar Keepers Friend powder, slather it on, wait a bit and then go after the rust with a bamboo skewer.

Hey surf I was under the understanding that acid couldn't harm glass. It didn't harm the bottles I used it on. Sorry if I was wrong. How could acid harm the glass?

Hey bhofcc,

I think you are correct. I'm not worried about the glass, in this case, but my own klutzy hide. 8-)

Thank you surf that was a very interesting read on the stickney and poor company. Are these insulators a common find? I think I caught the glass bug

Oh I got you. Definitely a job to do outside, with gloves, a mask, and extreme caution.
