Aloha I'M looking to buy or make a low drag coil stabilzer for water hunting. Can you show me what you guys use or where can I get one? I have one that came with my used 10 coil, but it has so much drag in the water.

Are you talking about a loop support?

Aloha yes the loop, I call it the coil the round thing that picks up the signal. Do you have any idea on how to make one that does not cause to much drag in the water?

This was on a different forum I will PM you the info on the guy hope it helps

Hello everyone! Well, I received my Excalibur yesterday and was troubled by the way the loop flopped around a bit, and the inability to over tighten the thin nylon bolt to prevent it from doing so. I did search after search after search, and found there was no loop support available for this model (or at least maybe I didn't find it). Nonetheless, I designed and made my own adjustable support, and it works like a charm.

If none exists on the market....do you think there IS a market for these for me to sell?

Anywhoo....thanks for looking,

aloha thanks for the pics on your stabilizer and i will work on mines today. I noticed without a coil stabilizer I was tightening my nut and bolt to hard to keep the coil in place. When the bits of sand get into the coil pivot point it can ware down your coil. I checked my two water detectors and they both had some ware, that is the main reason I wanted to build a stabilizer.

Hunters with Minelab Excalibur's make sure you check the two tear drop washers on the bottom of your shafts. If that gets worn down your coil will soon develop a groove from the lower shaft. You can get replacements from Minelab and when you do get some spares to keep in your repair kit.

Aloha I finshed my coil stabilizer yesterday and took it for a test spin last night. The used coil and rod that I just bought came with a home made stabilizer, but it had to much drag in the water. After seeing your designs I modified it and it works better now. I only found 10 coins, a broken silver chain and a silver ring in two hours. I would like to thank you guys for your help and pics.

Hey Paul..hows it brah...Wish I was back on the island right now. I am currently surrounded by alot of sand...but no beach!! Any guess as to where I am? I hope to get back there in Dec of 09 for visit the in-laws. I hope to have purchased an SE Pro by then. I will bring you on base to check out the old Kam housing, it was built in the early 1900's and should hold some nice finds. Laters, Jay
