So I put some good hours in the last 2 days, probably about 10 total. I'm very new to detecting and these are the first good days I've hunted. I found $2.60 in clad (I think that's what you call "normal" money) so far I've been hunting parks. But I haven't found anyhing old coin wise... Am I just not looking in the right places? I have a fisher f2 and my main goal is to find old coins and jewelry of course. I dug every target today, mostly tabs. A few coins and that's it. Any pointers would help. Maybe even a buddy here in Eastern PA!

It takes time...and patience, and research, and research, etc.

No doubt that 99% of us have spent countless days digging up clad and pull tabs, as it's just part of
coin shooting.

Are you using headphones? It really helps, as then you can concentrate more and hear those faint,
deeper signals.

First time I go to any playfield, park or area to detect, I do a full "recon" of the grounds, and am
looking for the places where people would congregate the most. What trees were they most likely to
sit under "back in the day", and are those trees even still there, or are there little more than leftover
stumps? Many parks and playfields have been renovated over time, so I'm also looking for the older
areas that still appear to be undisturbed from their original state.

Do some research on the site in the history section of the local newspapers website, as it could be
a celebration of some type was held there long ago, and if you can find anything that shows where
in the park that was held, then you now have an area to concentrate your efforts in!

Pulltabs in parks are a major PITA, so I've generally set my detector up to either reject those signals,
or to give me an odd audio pitch advising me that there is a tab there (that could also be a gold ring!).

Spend as much time using the detector as possible, and get familiar with every peep it makes; soon you'll
know what those sounds mean. In time the machine will almost become an extension of yourself, and you'll know
what it is telling you about the object buried beneath your coil.

Most important is that you are persistent in your efforts, Do the homework, spend the time swinging
the coil and those "goodies" will soon be popping up.

All the best,

the older the site the better the chances for something old is the best advise i could give. Oh yeah , lots and lots of practice.

I do not use headphones. I'm still learning the sounds and I can actually tell I got somewhat better than I was. Hm... Guess practice makes perfect
