Nice Merc! That seems to be the only silver ever lost or should I say left from the detecting hay days in my areas I hunt. Would love to find a big silver

Very nice congratulations

Congrats on your first silver!

Awesome first silver, my 1st was a merc as well
Can't beat that feeling

I began metal detecting 3 years ago with my Bounty Hunter 505 and I'll never forget seeing a 1921 Mercury dime in the hole- what a rush! You will have many more in the future- good luck!

You sure are. The Mercs are a great coin to dig. Congrats on your first, & may many more show up under your coil.

Sure is! Now go find the rest of it!

Yep,, Winged Liberty Dime,, 1916 - 1945
They were nicknamed "Mercury" because the wings reminded everyone of the Roman God Mercury.
The wings on the sides of Lady Liberty ' s head were supposed to represent freedom of thought.
Pick up a couple of coin folders and put that bad boy in one. Mark the date and place of find on it and put it in a special place. You can order Yeoman's Red Book of Coins, as well as the coin folders from Wizard Coin Supply.
Congrats on your first silver.

Against the Wind is right on with this post. Winged Liberty dime is the correct term. Oddly enough I have seen over the years that most people's first silver coin (including my own) is a Winged Liberty dime, usually from the 40s even though silver Roosevelt dimes were manufactured for another 20 years or so. Rather than the coins books, consider the Whitman plastic 2x2s that are also sold at Wizard Coin Supply and other supply houses. If you buy them by the box they are reasonably priced and a nice way to display your coins.

Congrats on your first silver coin!

Congrats on your first silver....:icon_thumright:

Welcome to silver coin club. May you find many more. October has been a good silver month

That is definitely my first. Maybe I had one in my hand when I was 10 yrs. old, but probably bought candy with it.:BangHead:
Thanks all for the congrats. HH
