Found this in an antique store in Poland and it caught my eye and I had to buy it. It’s very strange what I believe is the Eagle from the Great Seal of the United States Wearing wearing a crown! It has the banner, 13 arrows, 13 Olives, and 13 leaves, 9 tail feathers, like the seal. The crest has been identified as the Coat of arms of Castile and León a kingdom in Spain and the crown perhaps something from the Holy Roman Empire. Another thing I noticed is that its reversed from the American Eagle (The arrows are on the left in this carved piece), so would that mean someone copied it and it got reversed in the transfer when created?

Questions include:
Is this a fantasy piece?
Any ideas on age?
Any idea where this could have hung or of it’s purpose?

It’s wood, about 14” in height, hand carved I believe by a skilled craftsmen.

Any help appreciated!

but the lions are reversed and the crown is not right. a reversed coat of arms signifies submission, but I do not think this is the case, as the castles would be switched as well. If you can find THAT crown it may help.

Are there slots behind the shield? It looks like a sword display plaque.

Luke you're a Genius my man! I think you hit the nail on the head! I pulled the plaque very hard to get a better look and it came apart. It appears there is a recent repair, so my guess is someone hung a sword that was a bit too heavy and it broke. Also with the round nails behind I'll assume that it can't be that old. I believe its older for sure though just based on its wear.

This must be a fantasy piece where the designer mixed cool-looking iconography as a display sword or dagger holder.
