This all that's left of Camp Concordia, this one guard tower, built by prisoners, and the pedestal for the 100,000 gallon water tower in the back ground.
at one time, during 1944 it housed over 5,000 prisoners, guarded by 883 guards.
the POW's that lived here were transported from the war to Kansas, where they remained until the end of the war.
they were then sent back to germany. later, quite a few of the german soldiers returned to kansas, not as prisoners, but,
residents. during their imprisonment, they worked on the local farms in the area, and built up a good relationship with the
locals

Re: German POW camp

The title threw me a bit at first. This is an American POW camp for German prisoners. :D

Re: German POW camp

is it off limits? sounds like a good place for buttons and trinkets

Re: German POW camp

I don't know if I can hunt it, I'll have to check it out with some of the locals

Now that would be an interesting site to dig. Thanks for the photo.

Sniffer there is one of those over by Tonkawa too.

I haven't been back there in a while, when I do, I'll have to check with the county to see who owns it
maybe I can get permission to hunt it
