Ummm... well, that depends on one's personal definition of what "a few dollars" is. Note that the owner says this Amethyst geode segment is 25cm (10 inches) long... and note the fact that therefore it is about twice as long as an average-size Amethyst segment. Lastly, this speciman's Amethyst crystals are very nice quality, well-formed, undamaged, with classic clear DEEP-purple color. So, I'd say it is worth more than just a few dollars. I've seen Amethyst specimens which are this quality AND this large sell in the neighborhood of at least $50 to $100. Sometimes a lot more, at "pricey" shops which sell to wealthy tourists. Check the prices at the Search-result links I'll post below.
Lastly... thought you might like to know, this unusually large specimen appears to match those which come from the famous Amethyst mines in Brazil. Technically, the deposits in those mines are not a "loose" geode like we rock-hounds find on the surface. The mines contain Amethyst "pockets" in the base-rock, sometimes several feet long... which are said to have originated as gas pockets in molten basalt lava. Here's the Search-result link, for the keyword phrase "Brazilian Amethyst mines". Although these Internet prices are higher than I've seen in some mineral-collector shops, they should give you an idea of the current value of your 10"-long high-grade Brazilian Amethyst segment.

In particular... at this site, a 3-inch chunk is $15-20, a 5" chunk is $35-50, and a 6" chunk is $70. As you see, chunks larger than that are not commonly available, and thus bring a premium price above the typical smaller sizes.
