i went just 50 feet north of my garden with not much time to walk right after lunch
only had bout 20-30 min and noticed about 15-20 red rooted pigweed plants getting ready to go to seed and needing to be pulled
i stopped and walked over to start and B4 i got to the weeds i noticed arib bone w/a little polish to it
looked a little closer before picking it up and.... YEE-HAW!!!!!!! another knife handle only this is another one of a kind for me
here is why,
this one has rust stains on the blade groove
copper does not rust or make a stain, and neither does flint, chert, or agate
the only thing that it could is either steel or most likely sheet iron,so that makes this blade a post contact trade item making it even rarer in my opinion as the post contact period was not a terrible long period of time
after taking the photos i walked about 3 more feet and here is a clear agate point, then another 4 feet and a gastropod shell bead
then as i pulled all the weeds a few scrapers and some pottery pieces
so here we go w/the handle and next will be the rest
i feel very fortunate today!

That is really cool Steve :headbang:. In the 6th photo is that part of the rusted blade in the groove or just the rust stained bone with dirt in the groove ? That is great !!! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

thanks tommy
that is part of the rusted blade still stuck in the groove
enjoy!

Real nice haul for 20-30 minutes, what are the two other bone pieces in your hand with the knife handle ?

Oh Wow! Those are really nice! What a neat knife handle, and I love that little transparent point, thanks for sharing, pulling weeds at my house isn't NEARLY that much fun...

tommy the shorter piece is part of a broke knife handle
the longer one was used for something which the polish on the one end of the piece will show that it is not just a rough broke edge but i don't know what it was exactly
steve

Steve, I'm very jealous of what you find guy. You have quite the place there and I always look forward to seeing what you come up with next. Thanks for sharing.

As always, nice finds steve....have a question tho, How did they bind the blades to the rib? was it just glue or were they wrapped too?.....goat

larry thanks
the copper and iron blades were installed w/a press fit
the flint, chert, agate etc blades were hafted
no evidence of pine pitch
steve

Sweet finds Steve. I can imagine what all you would find if you did a 4 or 5 hour hunt. I'd say you'd probably have to take a bucket with you to carry it all.

I'm one, who thinks his "site" is banner-worthy! Is there two? ;D

Your property is absolutely amazing. I could not imagine finding some of the stuff that you do. Spectacular.
