Went this Tuesday past and did the little metal detecting speech to the local scouts. Was I ever nervous! Room was FULL! Not only of the scouts...but the parents as well! Didn't have a clue as to what I was going to say untill it left my lips. :P :D But I did manage to get by and ended up having a wonderful time. Got a lead to a new site that I hunted last evening for a bit and then several hours today. Was a school back in the day...hubby's Mom attended it in elementary school...so I thought that was neat. The folks that live there now turned the school into a house 35 years ago. I think I dug more junk in those several hours than I have dug in a long time! I did get a couple of keepers. It's funny how you can paint a picture with the finds one makes. There are two really big trees out front and the boys played with their cars under one...and the girls played dress up under the other. :D Lots of modern change... ??? and one buffalo nickle (no date). My favorite car is the little tootsie car and I thought the compact was special being that it was my first to find. As I was leaving ......getting that last minute in, I found the part of a cap gun.

Wow, Nana, that's quite a haul! I had a little purple car just like that one. Keep searching, maybe one of those kids' lost lunch money was a mint Walker half!

NANA, Very Nice Haul, Congrats. Believe Me I Have To Dig Through Alot Of Modern Junk To Find CW Relics At This Day In Time. trk5capt...

Now that you are "free" you are going on a digging rampage! :D ;D Some neat stuff in there.
Don't give up now.

My mother's place is several acres and we have been hunting it for years now. Of coarse since it's my mom's we would only hunt about an hour at a time when we would be doing some chores/visiting ,etc. Since there were five of us growing up on the property and the neighbor hood gang was always over we found lots of late 60's and 70's clad, hot wheels, pull tabs, and misc stuff. After that layer and a year later we started getting to the good stuff - early 1900's stuff. Not a lot of coins but other stuff that I think now is even better - pins, tokens, jewery, relics.
I doubt if someone "beat you to it". Just have to dig through the layers.

Good luck

Mirage

Nana, congratulations on the speech. It will only get easier. ;)

Interesting batch of goodies you've dug up there.....and thanks for showing the junk. My next post will include the junk, cuz that's just about all I've been finding! :(

I am POOPED!

Ok....I spent another four hours here today. Waited until after a quick rain came through. It had cooled the temps down so I headed out the door. Took all of about 30 minutes for it to hit the 90's again! :P Started off under a Magnolia tree near the road...right across the street from the scout building. Found another neck tie slide? This one has an eagle! Really like that one! Then I headed up to the yard of the house/school. Ended up finding 54 coins.....oldest one being 1959 :-X penny. NO SILVER...NO WHEATS. In all I have found 113 coins....with just one little ole Indian/buffalo nickle. :'( I sorted out the coins by date just to see what I had....maybe make a little sense of it all......nope......
still don't understand! :D And I am pooped!

Do you remember which decade it was? :D
I don't know about the date IHunter....it has tootsie and then chicago and the #2....

Mirage....although this lady is very nice....I don't know if she wants me to still be digging in her yard for a year! :D I do understand what your point is though....might take me a while to get to anything better than this.

Haupin....I do hope that I don't have to do that again! :D

Thanks ya'll!

"don't know if this lady wants you digging her yard for a year" - Just make some fresh bakery before you visit each time. After a couple of these trips she will be looking forward to your visits. ;D ;D :D

Cool finds Nana. You always have good stories and pictures.

Well done Nana, you have way more energy than I do! Hope you can keep getting to hunt that spot, now with that much iron out of the way, less of it to mask the silver which I am sure is there somewhere. That is an impressive pile of stuff for sure!

Good idea Mirage! I'll start cookin right away! :D

Thanks 99 and Mike! :)

Good hunting Nana!

LOL @ Mirage's idea--but he is totally right on with that one. It would work!

Sites with lots of stuff like that take awhile to get to the goodies. My yard has been that way. It was carpeted with 70s and 80s coinage, below that I have been finding junk and two wheats, so far. lol

Keep looking!

Fudge brownies will gain anyone access to my place. ::)

Brownies huh? :D

Thanks ml!

Hey Nana! At least you got out for a few hours. We are remodeling a house for the kids & I haven't had time to blink, let alone go detecting. Not that I'm in a hurry to move them out of our basement or anything. Grandson is growing very FFFFFAAAASSSSTTTTTT!
I'll send you a detailed note later. Great finds.
