Hello TNET Members;
To clear up any confussion!! When I first posted the pics of the Barber dime another member pointed out that they didn't make a 1885 Barber. However the pics look like an 8. After carefull looking and cleaning I guess it is a 9 but hard to tell through my eyes!!
Got out this afternoon for 3 hours and tried something others have been telling me to do. And that's to run the Ace 250 in the all metal mode. So today I went to all metal, notched out everything under a dime and cranked the sensitivity up almost to max. Then I dug everything. Of course I dug a lot of dimes but also some unaccepted, like a 41 nickle and a 31 wheat. But best of all I dug a pretty 1917 merc and an 1885 Barber....Ugliest silver coin I have ever dug. It's clean but seems to have been stained by something while in the ground all of those years. Both silver was a 5-6 inches. When I had a good signal that was deeper than 4 inches I was almost convinced it was going to be something good. Thees grounds are not trashy and have not been filled in. Generally in these conditions as like other places that's the depth that I dig most of my coins at, but not all the time
Now I realize that by notching out pennies I may miss some wheat's or other pennies but I am tired of digging pennies. I can always go back in later after I "cherry pick" the good stuff and work it again. I just don't understand how I dug an IH while notching out everything else penny and below
Anyway, enough rambling on. And by the way. They cut the field over the weekend so this makes it really nice. I also finally took some pics of the field and old grounds. The grade school was the oldest. The high school was 1915. I apologise for the previous date error. The high grounds are not too good as they have graded this area. But the rear of the field seems to be the best. The big tree, which I bet is near 200 years old must have been a good spot to hang out. This is where I am finding the coins. You can see it in one of the pics.
Todays finds were:
1885 Barber dime
1917 Merc
1941 Nickle ( Thought 1941 were war nickles?)
1941 Wheat. (scratched it while digging)
The Ameican Eagle Shot shell (1922 Kansas city, Kansas
