But boy I was wrong! Just getting around to posting these finds I made from my site on Friday the 13th. I'll let the pictures do the talking...... All I can say is this site keeps giving and giving!!! None of these were pit finds - all surface. The beautiful coat 8 is the first of that regiment I have ever found at this site and the 23 is a previously unknown size button (20 mm). In Troinis book a button measuring this size is not even listed in ALL the French regimental buttons. Except for one small nick at the 11:00 position it is perfect! HH Devonrex

If there's a lot of iron around there's no way it's beat yet. My small early sites that are very beat rarely give up even one high tone, never mind a whole handful.

The size being different on the 23 isn't really a big deal. Don's book doesn't really cover all sizes for all buttons nor was it meant to. In some cases he probably wouldn't add a button just because of the size, it would have to be a new variant.

You're sure getting quite a collection of those. That site will make a good display.

I just realized after posting today that one of the cut 2 reales is dated 23 for 1723 ..... a match to go along with the number 23 button. These coincidences make me think what are the probabilities of that happening? Like on Feb 13th I found 6 small French buttons all number 13! Kind of amazing in a way! Devonrex
