ok guys lets start by sayin that cold is an understatement here in illinois...and that most of us would rather be inside (myself included) however when the detectin bug bites, you do what you must...so as it happens yesterday i got bit AGAIN!! and decided to go out in the cold..BUT..i figured that if i was goin i aint diggin for no dang penny, nickel or dime...or even a quarter for that matter..so i set up the minelab for just silver dollars with an EXTREMELY tight acceptance pattern and headed for a park that i know has in the past given up 4 or 5 silver dollars...(this is where the anger managment part comes in) at least against all the oddball comments and looks from the NON-detecting public that i had to deal with while making my recovery....which by the way was under a bush and took about 40 minutes to get to and was laying on my stomach to chisle because of the bushes...I swear to god i thought my family jewels were gonna stick to the ground like a tongue to a flag pole before i finished the hole!! <<< more anger management needed for that too. anyway i finaly got the 2 pound sledge and chisle to cooperate to gether under the damn bushes...(not before missing once and hittin my frozen hand.@#%$&^*!@#(*&&^%$^ >:( ( managment needed for that one too!!!) but i finaly got the dang coin and it was indeed a silver dollar...but if i ever.EVER get the bug to go out in this crap again somebody PLEASE...PLEASE dowse me with some raid to kill that damn bug cause i couldnt stand any more of that cold a$$ weather detectin... anyway thanks for lookin at my post (hardest damn dollar I EVER earned!!)

OH MAN... I have to say I would have let them get frozen to the ground for that, lol
That is beautiful!!!

HA! Man... once you thaw out you'll be glad you went!!!! AWESOME! :D

Great find, & very funny story 9volt, I am waiting for a little snow in the shades to melt off in 40 degree weather before I get out , ( I must be a wimp) .

HH, Fossis................

Well worth the effort!

i would dig a block of friggin ice to get a peace dollar! funny story....... i got my brother into detecting about a year ago, and on his 2nd trip out he wanted to hit an old school that we both had attended as kids. i had already hit this place a bunch of times, and i wasn't very keen on hitting it again but since he was new, with all of that new found enthusiasm, i humored him and went anyway. after about a half hour he comes up to me with an old coin he dug at like, 8 inches. after we cleaned it up it turned out to be an 1894 Indian! i figured it was beginners luck until about an hour later he comes and asks for help pinpointing a target. i follow him into the woods where he has a hole dug almost deep enough to go to china, and i get down on my knees and start to probe the hole. sure enough there is something in the side of the hole. i popped my lesche into the side of this hole and out pops a 22 peace dollar!! i almost passed out! then i scanned the hole and there was still something there. the second coin was a 42 washington in the same hole! i wanted to kill him!! not only did he whoop my ass on his second day, but he made me dig em up!!...........sorry for the long story but your dollar made me think of it again. ;D great find!!

You got at least two tangible benefits from this hunt: a great story and a great coin. Way to go.

Wow, what a Great Find, I have a Ice Pick you can use the next time. My partner and I used them the last time we hunted, about 2 weeks ago. He has the bug again, and told me today when the weather breaks, maybe we could hit a local park on the hillside where the sun hits. I'm not sure about that, It's just 2 above zero now and supposed to get colder here in Ohio.

Thanks for the great story, it really made me laugh, cause I know how hard it is to dig coins that are frozen in.

Hollowpoint, that was a great story you told also. That darn beginners luck! My partner this year went out we me and another guy and he popped out a Silver Half Dollar on his first hunt. Damn the luck anyway. Actually he smoked my other partner and me that day. My other partner, hunted with his Minelab SE, then went to his Whites XLT, and then finally got mad and left.

Thanks again for the post and I know we all love that Peace Dollar.

I'd gladly freeze my nads any day for a dollar like that one. Hey, you've got two of 'em don't you? You know it only takes one, right? LOL

That dollar is a beaut. Congrats!!

That's what I call hard-core detecting ..... hammer and chisel! Looks like it paid off for you.

Well Done!

It was well worth the effort!

That's one of my favorite coins of all time!

Congratulations!

9volt, I feel your pain brother. I'm up here in Northwest PA and did about 3 days of diggin' until the weather dropped to 7 (thats what it was this morning). I must confess though, If I would have retreived something like that my third day out, I would have went out a fourth, its all about the bug, once you've been bitten, there just aint no cure, but gettin out and gettin dirty. . .ur . . .uh. . . frozen. ;D

;D :o VERY NICE!!!!!

Yep I'd say it was well worth it too! Beautiful coinage dude! I don't have nads or frozen ground here! ;D ;D ;D ;D

At least you know the park is still giving up some good finds. And is it just my opinion or shouldn't all of the general public AKA Nosey Rosies being staying their butts inside while us crazy folks are out hunting? Geesh!

HH,
Moon

Hey 9volt i give ya a week before the bug hits ya again.

Hey try this>>>>>> Propane torch, thaws the ground right out where u want to dig.

OHHH by the way nice Peace Dollar.

Who needs anger managment when you got silver dollars....wait untill spring untill trying to chisel some coins out of the hole, or else you might need a grand of anger managment when you chisel a $20 gold piece into oblivion!

You made just over 50 cents an hour diggin' that coin. I'd work a coin like that for the same money. Beaut!
