ok guys lets start by sayin that cold is an understatement here in illinois...and that most of us would rather be inside (myself included) however when the detectin bug bites, you do what you must...so as it happens yesterday i got bit AGAIN!! and decided to go out in the cold..BUT..i figured that if i was goin i aint diggin for no dang penny, nickel or dime...or even a quarter for that matter..so i set up the minelab for just silver dollars with an EXTREMELY tight acceptance pattern and headed for a park that i know has in the past given up 4 or 5 silver dollars...(this is where the anger managment part comes in) at least against all the oddball comments and looks from the NON-detecting public that i had to deal with while making my recovery....which by the way was under a bush and took about 40 minutes to get to and was laying on my stomach to chisle because of the bushes...I swear to god i thought my family jewels were gonna stick to the ground like a tongue to a flag pole before i finished the hole!! <<< more anger management needed for that too. anyway i finaly got the 2 pound sledge and chisle to cooperate to gether under the damn bushes...(not before missing once and hittin my frozen hand.@#%$&^*!@#(*&&^%$^ >:( ( managment needed for that one too!!!) but i finaly got the dang coin and it was indeed a silver dollar...but if i ever.EVER get the bug to go out in this crap again somebody PLEASE...PLEASE dowse me with some raid to kill that damn bug cause i couldnt stand any more of that cold a$$ weather detectin... anyway thanks for lookin at my post (hardest damn dollar I EVER earned!!)

That is a killer coin with a killer recovery!
Awesome job...

We should start a club "North American ARTIC Metal Detecting Group" A nice logo would be Picks and Hammers...And would look good
on some Sub-Zero winter jackets!

Nice Dig

Great big silver 9volt and I concur with Zoso about the arctic detecting club!

Any idea why so many large silvers have been found there?

Nice Peace Dollar find, no matter how cold it was !! ;D

Awesome find...nice reward for dealing with the cold.... ;D

Very nice coin...Still a long way till I find something like this...

Nice find!! I think this is one of those stories where you "can look back on it someday and laugh". Just so long as there's "permanent" damage... ;D

If you ever get bit that bad by the bug again, maybe it's a sign? To heck with the raid, get the garrett out and go for it!!!

That is a super find. You are the man. I hope "everything" is still intact. That is a great story and the reward is definetley worth it. You should hit that area again....when the snow melts :). Great job.

Great story to a great find, I have found a lot of silver since I started MDing, but no DOLLARS :'(
My oldest SILVER 1832 CAP ;D

Yep, definitely worth braving the cold for, WTG!!!!
If I would have tried something like that, it would have been a bottle cap by the time I got to it... ;D
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

danimal i have no idea why so many have been found there ..this was only my second one from that park but i was in the park when 2 of my other tector buds scored dollars...over the course of a couple days they had 5 between them and i was skunked (at least for dollars that is) my other dollar was an 1885 morgan and my buds both got morgans (1) 1900 and another 1880. to my knowledge this was the first peace dollar to come out of there at least between my buds and i.

I only use the garrett as a clad sweeper so the minelab doesnt have to deal with nothin but the serious deeper coins ;D

p.s aint decided if the damage was permanant yet!! still using a heating pad to warm him up lol ::)

Nice post 9Volt, laughed my A$$ off. I totaly related. dam those non-metal detecting people..... >:(

I just dont understand people today. They see a crack-head huffing a pipe,a heroine addict banging a needle in his arm or a bunch of gangstas' shooting guns and they dont bat an eye. Then they notice a normal enough looking guy laying on his stomach under a bush with a hammer and chisel in sub-zero weather and they think there is some sort of problem? Wonderful find on that peace, with that sort of effort it should have been a 21',HH...Shoot

Nice job! What year is it?

1926... so i wasnt that old but in freezin weather any large silver will do altho i think if i had it to do over again i would have just flagged it in my detecting spot log and waited till spring to have dug it

Nice write up and find. 8) 8) Sounds like a great park to detect in. I see more Morgan Dollars posted than peace dollars so you did good. ;D

try pissing on your target spot before digging, works every time......

Who had that block of C4? Just a pinch could have come in mighty handy! Great dollar! Monty
