Anna Maria Island Gulf coast FL ...worth the time?

Hi ,
I am a Noobie at md'ing and am heading to Anna Marie Island on the gulf coast for a few weeks. We have a house on the beach for our stay but from what I understand this is not a very well visited area by the public (so maybe not many finds??) .Would I be wasting my luggage space to bring my detector down ? Any feedback by someone who may know the area or otherwise would be great.

Take it along you never know. In the time you have before you go do some research see what kind of history it has. I'm sure you will turn up some goodies on those beaches and parks. Maybe possible pirate activity back in the day. There are a few stories of folks that stumble across great finds in such areas, some where not even metal detecting.
