I think the last name may be Hansen but not 100% certain. Amazingly there are people here that get almost everyone and I'm hoping this is the case here also. Not sure if this is a known or unknown artist from 1933. Thanks to all .....

Interesting. Some of the letters of the signature were double penned and the date is of another pen. It is possible that someone wanted to make a more recent painting look old.
The signature is puzzling, maybe a reason behind that. I hope that it is real 1933.

potsherd_creek I agree with you 110%. This is a friends painting that she emailed me for an opinion and I posted it here for other opinions.
As you point out it just looks suspect and in today's world there are a lot fakes. Thanks & have a good one .....

I did not know the circumstance and hate to burst anyone's bubble. Kind of odd, the contrast between the river, far hills and sky and what's in the foreground, almost like part of it has been painted over. It does have depth, almost a 3D effect.

No you did not burst her bubble as it's always best to be straight forward, upfront & honest as opposed to sugar coating...
