looks like it could be a square key of somekind or a handle post that you would hammer into a small hole for the tightest fit

I find loads of these. when complete its about 3 times the length with the bottom piece being a screw thread. Thats all I can help with, as I junk them. (never bothered to ID them).

I've dug quite a few as well. Mostly in colonial and early 1800's sites. I think they are to drawer pulls. I think there were 2 one one each side with the handle in the middle secured by the hole in the round end of the pice like you dug. I dug one with a flat disc(not attached) on the end like it was from a piece of furniture or something. I won't have time to look for it today but if I find it will post a pic.

I finally found the one I dug that had the rossette with it. The rossette was on the other piece when I dug them. I dug these at a precivil war house site. Sorry it took so long to find them. And no I didn't find the dine with them :tongue3: Now excuse me while I finish my :coffee2:

Found last time out on an early homesite, made of brass.
The post is square like a nail, the hole in the head is 3/8" overall length 3/4".
Is it a drawer mount for a swiveling handle?

Thanks for the help on ID.

Folks this is one of two posts from a bail style drawer pull, late 18th century. The round rosettes were the backing plates and the hole in these held each side of the bail.
