Well another relic found from a 1860's yard about 8 inches long and possibly simply looks like something to hang something on although not strong enough to lift a lid of a heavy iron cooking pot yet not just to hang my coffee cup. Definitely an oldie. Any ideas. Thanks.

For taking the lid off of a dutch oven that is in a fire

Your item resembles an old tire rim puller from back in the days when they had the wooden spoke wheels. You would unsrew the four or five lock nuts and use the tool to detach the wheel from the hub. Mud and dirt and rust would sometimes get between the wheel and hub and you would need such a tool to do the job.
