Just received my extra 18.75 dd coil that comes (well after) the purchase of my XT70. NOW, I know this has been posted somewhere else but, what is this coil good for? Whats the benefits over the stock coil? Help would be MUCH appreciated, Joe

I don't reconize the coil size, but there are a lot of things now days that I don't reconize. The benifits of a larger coil is to cover more ground per sweep. The more ground covered per hour equals the better chance of putting the coil over a good target. The larger DD coil also has a larger foot print down at it's max. depth so you won't need to over lap as much to "sift the sand" as it were. It will not be a good coil in trashy areas because of the many more targets under the coil at any one time.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does, the 18.75 is the frequency and that's the part that confuses me. Thanks Sandman.

For lower conductive targets so it should be good for lead, brass and so on. Also great for jewelry. I keep the 18.75 coil on my Xterra 70 most of the time and I mostly beach hunt. It will hit rings nice and deep and will work well finding you some chains and earrings.
basically there are three freq coil offered for the Xterra:
the low freq is supposed to excel at finding deeper high conductors like silver
the med freq is supposed to be an all around freq
the high freq is supposed to be for lower conductors

all will work on the various metals but some work better than others. its a nice option minelab made for us. Personally I prefer the DD coils also, I like the coverage they offer since I mostly beach hunt.

Neilen; how good is your xterra over the wet. Stable?

Very stable. I live in NJ, my basic settings are tracking on in beach mode with sens at 15, threshold just audible which for me is about 2 or 3 but Ive read where some guys run it up near or at 10. I guess that depends on your hearing. I use the all metal button and switch around with that and coin pattern 1 depending on how much iron is in the sand and how much of that low tone iron gives I can take :)

Sometimes I can get my sens up to 17 but that is the max Ive ever been able to run it at in wet sand. The 70 will let you know if your sens is to high as it will false. At 15 I dont get any falsing and get real respectable depth and smooth operation.
