I understand that New England, New Hampshire especially, would be littered with old colonial buttons and other "drops" but in the same small pile of dirt they created when they scraped out the new driveway? This is a smaller diameter button with some gilt remaining. The word GILT is visible and I do believe the reason there is still a good amount of gold on the reverse is because it may read "TREBLE GILT" I need to clean it to be certain. If only I can pull out a few colonial coins next! Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the buttons.

Nice! Probably from the early 1800s, not quite colonial but still a great find!
