Another doohickey

Appears to be brass and was found at a previous home site where late 1800's and early 1900's items have been dug. I believe it to be of that age as in at that period of time,everything nearly seemed to have a design on it. One end has a little dot that sticks out on the bottom and on the reverse that dot is sunken in or concave. Thanks for looking(and guessing) and sorry for the sideways pictures.

Yep, the larger dimples would act as detents to hold it in open and closed positions, and the other dots would give your fingers the friction needed to make it slide. Sounds like a good guess to me. HH

After looking at the photos both sideways and right side up, I can confidently conclude that none of you have correctly identified this item. It's not a thingamajig or a geegaw or even a doodad...it's a dilly-whopper! C'mon I thought someone would have gotten it by now!!!
