My wife wanted to check out a furniture store about 90 miles away so I stopped at all the small town banks along the way. several of them had no halves at all. But out of the ones that did:

First bank with halves had $13.50, no keepers.

Next bank had $304 in the counting machine. One teller said not only halves were in the bag. I told her I know other coins sometimes get counted as halves but that was ok. She said no, there are dollars in there and pulled out a stack of dollar bills. Never seen that before. They wanted to run the halves through the machine again to verify the count. She started running them and halves flew all over the place because she forgot to put the bag back in. They finally got things worked out and sold me the bag. I'm glad because it had 2x64, 2x67, 1x68-D, 3x69-D, and a British 50 pence.

Next was a Credit Union that had a bag with $933. I asked if someone had brought in a bunch of halves and she said no they just accumulated over time, always love to hear that. She said they would normally recount them but couldn't right then. I told her I knew the count could be a little off and that was ok. Very nice haul with 8x64, 3x66, 7x67, 4x68-D, and 1x69-D. Also had a 2002-S and $0.54 in misc change in really bad shape.

I had $201 left when I got to the last bank. They said the didn't have any halves. I was on my way out when someone at a desk said there were some in the counting machine. They checked and said there was $195 in the bag and I said I'd take it. Well, she meant to say $295 so I was $94 short. No banks around that I was a member of so she said she would count out $200 worth for me. I saw a few silver so when she was done I asked if I could take a look at the ones that were left. She asked if I was looking for something specific and I told here I hadn't found any 2007's yet for my book (which is true). I found 2 40% in the ones that were left and traded her 2 clads for them. She asked if they were 2007's and I told her no but I thought I might need them. I found 1x67, 2x68-D, and 2x69-D.

Overall a decent trip with a nice ratio of 90% to 40% coins.

Way to go fropa !

And great photos too. Thx

Good story!
Good results-
Did you spend it all on furniture?

Thanks thurmownator and TXTim. My wife spent WAY more on furniture than I'll probably ever find CRHing. Since I don't have to move with the military anymore we can finally get some nicer items without having to worry about them getting broken so I let her get what she wanted.

that dime looks like it split in 3 pieces. :D nice finds on the halves, plus you got a 1945 cent and a few cents in change! cool looking forign coins. 8)

Anybody know how to find the exchange rate for that 50 pence piece? I got one just like it some time ago. HH Mark

I couldn't believe all the damaged coins I found in the bag Coinlover. The dime is cut in 3 places, the other dime and the Wheat cent are bent, and the one cent is all chewed up.

You have to do what you have to do to get the silver packerbacker. But I can say I never told her a lie. She told me she just started to collect coins because her new boyfriend collects. He needs to teach her about silver halves.
