I decided to go back to the site today since we had a little bit of rain since I was there last Thursday. I really wasn't expecting to find much since I had found 7 Bone Beads and a Marginella Shell Bead last week and man was I surprised. I found 4 more Bones Beads, another Marginella Shell Bead, a Shell Disc Bead, a really nice Deer Antler Arrowpoint with a needle tip, 4 Stone Discs( 3 broken ones and one whole one. One of the brokens would have been a killer since it is drilled and has the sunburst lines on it), and some nice Pottery rim shards. I was there about 2 hours and I think I did so well because I was able to get down and crawl around the site which makes it easier to see things.

Pics 1 and 2. This is the total days finds.

Pic 3. Close up of the Deer Antler Arrowpoint

Pic 4. Looking down into the drilled hole of the Deer Antler Point.

Pic 5. The whole Stone Disc. It has nice polish on the entire piece.

Pic 6. The broken Disc with the drilled hole and the sunburst lines.

Pic 7. The Shell Disc and the Marginella Beads.

Pic 8. The nicest Bone Bead of the day with nice polished ends.

Pic 9. The Pottery shards. A few of them have some nice incised lines.

I like it. Just have a couple of questions. Are those discs ornaments or discoidals? Have they put a date on that site? Cool stuff, I can't seem to find Ft. Ancient artifacts.

Great eyes, that antler tip would blend in so well with the ground, amazing find there! Congratulations on all the finds!

Well Steve, you are gonna need a bigger Man-cave ::) :D

We call them Discoidals, but I don't think they were used along the same lines as the big Cahokia types. Most of the ones I have seen from this site and our other Ft Ancient sites are about the same size as these are. Some are drilled, some are just flat, some are cupped out on both sides, and some are decorated. I'd say they were some type of game pieces. As for the date, this site was dated from 950 to 1650 AD.

Tnmountains, the Pottery is Woodland, but late Woodland. This site is a Ft Ancient village site.

looks like an awsome site. need more rain . have you posted your first finds

Dork, killer stuff as usual. I found a broken Hornstone Decatur on Monday. It is the second broken Hornstone Decatur that I have found. They were both found on different sites.

Greg, we find quite a bit of Bone and Flint at this site along with some Shell artifacts too. Here are some pictures of the trays I have filled up from this site over the past 15 years or so.
