Another great hunt! Artillery round.

I had the day off from work and the kids were at school. Hummm what to do? I grabbed the Etrac and drove south. Unfortunately, the fields were still frozen after a very cold couple of weeks. I started with a few pieces of broken horseshoes. The next signal started to hum a 32 and 34 in lower right corner of the display. I knew that it was another good signal for a possible canonball. I came up with an artillery round about 9 inches down. I dug about 5 more holes and then broke my shovel. No GPS in the vehicle and no hardware store around I had to head home. (Happy with a great find)

Any ideas of the type of round? The diameter is 3 inches. Happy hunting and happy holidays!

Looks like the base of a Parrott shell.

Nice CS Base...I found this one on a farm in Sharpsburg,most likely from S. D. Lee's Artillery/Early Phase of Antietam,iron sabot. S. Mountain way?
