I got this item after my grandfather passed away long ago and have held onto it because I remember as a kid that he used it as an ashtray. Wasn't aware of what was on the other side until I got it from my grandmother who obviously, did not care for it. It appears to me to be made of pewter and I've been told because it has a slit on the left side that it was a soap tray bought by military members. He was in the Army during WWII but I think it might be older given the type of uniform the man is wearing. Any thoughts?

Btw, I keep it face up so my wife don't see the other side either!

Never seen a soap dish, but it's a classic design for risque/novelty ashtrays. You can still buy them.
