Another Which one to buy

I have been looking at the tesoro site. I was wondering what people thought was the best coin hunter. I don't care about relics. I like coins and tokens with a gold ring now and then. The mineralization is low in my area. I am not a newbie but am new to Tesoro's. Thanks

For strictly coin shooting I'd go with a Silver umax.

Price wise the silver umax is one of their cheaper detectors. Will it still get the depth. I want good preformance but don't care for all the bells and whistles unless they are nessary

The Silver Umax will get the depth. Or you can go with the Cibola another good detector. They will all find gold rings if you are not disc out pull tabs. Most rings aren't all that deep in the grass as the roots keep them shallow just like the pull tabs too.

The silver is awesome, great depth and easy to use, but if you can afford a little more....go Cibola!!

Is there a dealer close to you that would let you test drive a couple different Tesoro's? That may be the deciding factor. I have a Silver umax and absolutely love it. It's easy to use, very lightweight, and only uses one 9V battery, but it does only have one tone which some people dislike. In my opinion, it was a great place for me to start and not worry about dishing out too much money right away. If you are not new to detecting, and if you can spare a few extra $$'s, I hear great things about the Cibola. Either way, you can't really go wrong!

Before I ask the original question in this post I was leaning towards the Vaquero. I have never had a detector with a preset ground balance before. That was a concern to me thinking I might lose some depth and sensitivity. I am in mellow soil but I might not always be.

Most of my hunting is in farm fields. (wheat and corn) or in pastures where things used to be.

There are no dealers in KS according to the Tesoro site.

The Vaquero is a very good choice, I had one and it was just as Tesoro claims, a do all. You mention that you are into coin shooting? I guess it depends on your definition. Looking for old stuff in fields and woods? Parks and tot lots only? I have not used the Cibola, but currently use the Silver Umax for coin shooting mostly, parks, tot lots and some woods. I have the Tejon for relics and coins in older areas (woods, corn fields, etc.). I had the Vaquero and that is a do all machine for sure. You can super tune it if you so choose to give you a little more punch. I like the Vaquero for coin shooting, but don't let the Silver Umax price and simplicity fool you, it is a very capable detector. Good luck and let us know which you decide.

from what I have read, the tesoro cortes is supposed the be the best. I don't have one yet but am looking into it.

I used to live in a house that was built in 1920.I ran over the yard with my cibola and found lots of old coins. I traded another machine I had for a vaquero and after ground balancing it started hunting.I was amazed how much stuff I was finding.It was like a virgin yard again. The ground balance helped big time in the North Dakota soil.
