here is what a native American fire pit for ceramics' might look like.
first photo is just a pile of wood covered in dirt to localize the heat.
second photo shows a rough wall of rock surrounding the "kiln"
hopefully you find pots in the firepit...

Thanks Mr. Pippin. I got all involved in watching some of those vids and got a call to "bring more vaccine" and had to high tail it out of here.
I do see that the curled up dried mud is found here. I need some time to watch some more of them and thank you for helping to educate me on this subject.
