Checked out a couple fields today with very little success. Nothing in the finds pouch other than a bit lead und some brass pieces. On the way back i had a look at a roman site, last week it was still in stubble. This week a good part was plowed and the farmer was there too for a bit small talk. A thunderstorm was coming up and here are the finds from these 45 minutes. Lead, nails and the usual trash, a tiny bend fibulae, bronze bell frag(?), Denarius of Antonius Pius 139 AD, smashed medieval hammered.

Thanks for looking!

Roman Silver is a great save indeed. Obverse looks to be in very good (not a grade) condition.

Man those ancient coins are the coolest looking finds. Fantastic recovery!

Thanks Rick, yes it isn't worn a lot. This site has more mid 4th C coins to give so i guess the site is older than expected with a sparse circulated coin.

:occasion14: you can sit at home and look at them for hours! Thanks!

I think the Silver more than saved the day, it saved the month, in my opinion.:occasion14:

Great find ! I purchased a denarius of Antoninus Pius back in the 70's I think (looked a lot like that one ) I have no idea what happened to it,
Since I've not yet been to your fair country , I rather doubt that you found mine - Very Nice Find !

Ho hum. Another old coin. Dang Lu, do you EVER go and not find silver? Hope you have more luck there, way to go.

history is amazing, these are but glimpses back into it but what glimpses!

It's a great hunt when you get Roman silver! Too bad your hammered was "hammered"...........

Nice finds! Thanks for sharing...

Very nice silver denarius  The brooch also is a great find being that it is a La tene Brooch, it drags your site back to the 1st Century...Great finds

Hi Tim! You know i have a lot of days without even a single coin! I just don't post every hunt like Cru or some others do.

Yes, it's a fantastic year for roman silver. Bronze silver ratio is close to 10:1! Looks more like i get my coil over every silver but miss many bronzes... :dontknow:

Hi Colin! Thanks! :notworthy: I didn't started a google search on the brooch until now. I'm not familar with the many different types, still new to antique hunting.
