Found this at low tide, along the Columbia River. Not sure if it is a bullet that was shot into the ground, or a carved nipple protector for a musket. Diameter of a penny. The top seems to be whittled, and the inner area appears to be hollow....

Help!

Looks like a 16 or 20 gauge deer slug

I'm no bullet expert, but it looks modern to me. :icon_scratch:

I'd also go with a 12ga. slug, but I don't see any rifling on it.

Whatever it is, it impacted something very hard.

Thanks Joe-Dirt... I didn't realize that it could be a deer slug, but it appears that is what it is!

The lead is old, so I think the shotgun slug is an early version? Thanks!

Dizz, thanks...ready to proclaim this one "solved". No rifling that I can find and the lead is consistent with molded bullets from the late 19th Century to early 20th. I sure learned a lot about "slugs" today!
