Wow..real cool. I wonder if it is agatized coral and not Flint.
 

Wondering if it's not one of thoughts lightning things, where the lightning hits the ground and melts the material around it.

it look like a flint nodule to me Suzy...but more importantly, it looks like European flint. it could be an artifact. either colonial, or native american trade item.
