Any help on identifying this civil war item?

Can anyone identify this item? Found in civil war area,

brass ring around it, and a small hole in the end. Any help? Can’t seem to find anything like it in any book.

The brass ring could be the bearing part of the crank.

For sure, could easily be modern junk.

Looks like a crank to me too. To small for a gaming gun crank. Thought that would be cool.

With a flat base definitely not a crank for anything.

My guess there is a screw hole crudded over.
