Wow -- that certainly looks like a 'fertility' symbol. The glazed shards are very interesting as well. I wonder if a museum can provide some advice.

I know- that's what I think also- the museum is a good suggestion but I haven't had the free time to follow up - work etc -

I know what you mean Darryl -- I have some things that I need to follow up on as well, yet scheduling can get tricky.

I know that some auction houses used to have (and may still have) appraisal days, like Christie's and Doyles, and would accept mail or email with photos. I don't know if this is still the case though. The MET comes to mind -- maybe start there when time allows.

The painted shards look Southwestern to me, but could also be from Mexico, other many other areas in Central & South America. The guy with the third leg looks to be Old World (Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa.)

The Greeks & Romans had a god named Priapus, who had a beard and a absurdly large *****. He was kind of a comical figure, and they made lots of mosaics, frescos and depictions of him. Good Priapus and you'll see the resemblance.
