It's not a projectile, nor a Military relic. It seems to be a Civilian-usage decorative object, such as a jewelry part. Therefore, you should be asking Breezie instead of me. :)

I do not recall ever seeing such a thing until now.

To me it looks like part of a watch, but not quite right

Definitely looks like jewelry, with the tao holes being where a string would go through.

That is it sitting on a dime if no one could tell

Well, now, this is most interesting. My best shot is a 'love token' carved from a silver dime. The 4 ellipses at the too are not even, nor are the 'rays,' so it looks handmade. The numbers and letter on the back are definitely hand-done.

Crusader is correct I believe, in the watch theory. :icon_thumright:

The item appears to be a small gear cover or spring cover, from a handcrafted silver pocket watch.

How about combining mine and CRU's theory to make a 'Love Token' from a silver watch part? :) Breezie

Well, it does look like a 'love token,' and we could use Mark's Banner Civil War ring as the tie that binds. . . and of course, all of this hinges on whether CRU has a black tuxedo, and if I'm busy that day. :tongue3: Breezie

Yeap, the reason I like watch part, is because when watch makers fix or service a watch they often 'mark' the inside to record what they did.

I think everything carved on this side of it is purely decorative on this watch piece. If you GOOGLE 'love tokens' you'll see all sorts of intricate designs.

ITs was never a coin, if you look at the reverse, it has a lip around the edge which is a classic sign of a watch back.
